"You obviously do not understand leasing with an option to buy. This is a common business technique and no court would treat any part of the transaction as a gift unless there was less than fair value paid."

NO!!!, the Reagans bought the home with SOMEONE ELSE'S MONEY!!...the fact that they then paid rent to this gentleman or had an OPTION to buy DOES NOT take away the fact that they received the home as a gift...I'm closing on a home myself this week and for some crazy reason, the seller is expecting a check signed by the wife and I, not some influential third party. And if someone were bonkers enough to provide me with the funds to purchase the home, I would give them a big fat kiss and say thanks for the GIFT they have given me, which is what I'm sure Nancy did some years ago.
