"I have no idea who or what this Swift is about or his proposal"

Jonathan Swift. British writer, mid-1800s(?) or so. Wrote "Gulliver's Travels". He also wrote "A Modest Proposal" as one hopes a satirical solution to the Irish Potato famine which the British government had some difficulty coming to grips with. In a nutshell, the proposal was to have the starving Irish sell their babies to the British so they could be, ummm, well eaten. He actually presents a fairly strong case, with supporting evidence and suggests the best ages to sell. For what ever reason, his proposal was never adopted.

Note: this is why there is such a significant Irish population in the North East. The famine I mean, not "A Modest Proposal". Or, at least I think that is the case...
Could be wrong.
