Hello again, Nadine. You say

"I've never argued for Al Gore's particular tactics, just the rightness of a careful count of all legal votes in this election"

Is your whole position just a theoretical one then? I realize (and appreciate) that you can see that Al Gore's tactics were wrong. But how do you take them out of the equation? I believe in one of your first posts to me that you thought the repubs acted inappropriately. How should they have reacted to Al's tactics? I would fight back, and would not have much respect for someone who would just let him proceed until his vote count topped GWB's. Many dems have suggested this (or were at the time of the election).

If your whole position is just that it would have been nice to have "a careful count of all legal votes in this election", then we are on the same side. I say that was impossible because of existing FL law AND Al Gore's tactics (which you admit were bad). The end result was the FAIREST thing that could have happened in Florida. And it complies with the laws on the books at the time.

Do you agree with that?

"How many of Supreme Court 7 do I find political? All 7, especially the 5 who "fixed" the recount by stopping it"

I am glad I do not share your view on this. Why do you feel two of the "liberal" judges backed the ones with obvious (to you) political motivation? What about the other 2 who remanded the original ruling? That would make all 9 of them politically biased towards the republican side. That seems unlikely to me (very).

Also, it is too bad that Al did not have your level of integrity in dealing with this matter. That is why I am especially happy he is not our president. He is shameless, imo. His view is it is someone else's fault that he is not president. Nice example for the kids.
