Reaganomics appeared stupid when Reagan proposed it. Now we know it is stupid.. Thirty odd years ago I had an understanding of economics loosely on par with yours now. I didn’t know squat, and thought I did. An encounter with Smiths An Inquiry.. led me to a fascination with the subject. Since, I’ve developed some lay familiarity with many of the players and the various schools of thought. I’ve come to appreciate Keynes observation about the madmen in authority, who hear voices in the air, distilling their frenzy from the scribblings of some defunct economist. I also recognize the churls take their lead from their chosen madman, usually irrespective of merit. Those economists who establish a name that lasts have brilliant minds: they’re smart. If they gain influence and get it right –we win -- if not – we lose. Those “right wing” economists that have established the best track record support the essence of what the simple call “Reaganomics”. They recognize that his policies laid the groundwork for the expansion most of us have enjoyed. The serious thinkers on the left have generally conceded. So “Reaganomics” was/is stupid because your crowd still chant the chants? P.S. Just for nostalgia, can you do “two legs bad, four legs good” for us?
