"ADIC also announced that it expects to increase various expenses including research and development during fiscal 2001 as a result of the merger which may result in reducing earnings per share by as much as ten percent this year."

Sounds like a good fit for ADIC. I just started reading over the Annual Report last night, not finished yet. They did indicate that they are still on the hunt for technology - looks like they got some that fits nicely. They have indicated that software will be going like crazy, eating up R&D money to a greater extent this year. I think this is a good investment simply because many companies want turnkey solutions - hardware and software.

One thing that I also did not recall every hearing or reading: some of the backup systems that ADIC makes also include optical storage, mostly they are tape units, however.

I guess the question is, did they pay too much for the new addition?
..Pathlight had revenues of approximately $20 million for the twelve months ended October 31, 2000 and pre-tax earnings of approximately $5 million

ADIC giving out 10.3M shares @ $24

seems very pricey. I bet the stock takes a hit tomorrow due to the big $ amount and the writeoff.
