Analog Devices Inc. expects to spend $450 million on capital expenditures for the fiscal year ending Oct. 28, according to its annual report filed Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

According to the filing, in fiscal 2000 the company's capital spending totaled $275 million, up from $78 million in the previous fiscal year.

Analog Devices said in the filing that to respond to production capacity requirements, it significantly expanded its manufacturing capacity over the past several years. Major wafer fabrication expansions were completed in Wilmington, Mass.; Santa Clara, Calif.; and Limerick, Ireland. Also, in fiscal 2000 the company began building
an additional assembly and test facility in Cavite, Philippines, according to the filing.

This sounds good to me. They have confidence that things will work out with customers. Also try and avoid the capacity cruch next time semi's take off.
