I worked in Germany with physically handicapped kids in a boarding school. There the state basically contracts with churches to provide services addressing alcohol & drug addiction, education and job training, rehabilitation, orphans, well, everything. Churches provide about 50% of all social services. Many do the work to have a job. Some do it to show love (a faith response?). I do think it is good to start hollering about it first though. My wife goes weekly to a homeless breakfast, takes our kids, and it is faith based. It does good stuff. I'd think it great if they got more money to help address those needs. Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot.
