One thing we need to do is admit that there are limits to what we can do.

We can provide a basic safety net for those who cannot take care of themselves, knowing all the while that it will be abused.

We can do our damndest to provide health care, education, and opportunities to the children of the "difficult classes", knowing all the while that many will not, largely through the negligence of their parents, take advantage of these opportunities.

We cannot force businesses to hire unproductive employees at middle-class wages, nor can we ask the government to do the same.

Don't ask me what to do about it. I'll just ask everybody else.

You're right. It's about the children. I wouldn't shed a tear if it weren't for the children. I'll offer something to do. I'd spend money and personal energy to minimize the number of kids born into that kind of situation. For the ones who were born despite my best efforts, I'd get them the hell out of there. That's what I'd do about it.

P.S. I said I wouldn't post this late any more but here I am. So, if I post anything that sounds really screwy to you, I probably didn't mean it the way it came out.
