MARKET TALK: Tsys A Little Higher After Data

8:39 (Dow Jones) Treasurys higher in initial bounce after GDP data came in weaker than expected. 10-year up around 3/32 since data, at 104 7/32, yield down 1 BP since data at 5.18% (JNP)

8:37 (Dow Jones) Real final sales - GDP less inventories - grew at a 1.6% annual rate in the fourth quarter, a bit faster than GDP, but a lot slower than the 2.4% rate in Q3. Inventories rose by less $67.1 billion vs $72.5 billion. That slowed GDP, but doesn't represent a huge pile-up of inventories. (JM)

8:36 (Dow Jones) EUR/USD has shot up on a slightly disappointing U.S. GDP figure. EUR/USD is at $0.9307 compared with $0.9290 ahead of the data. (CSE)

8:34 (Dow Jones) Though the last two quarters were noticeably weak, for 2000 as a whole, the U.S. grew 5%, fastest pace since 1984. Don't expect anywhere close to a repeat this year. (BB)

8:33 (Dow Jones) 4Q GDP up 1.4%, lower than the 1.9% predicted by economists but still above the 1% or so level some had feared it would dip to. Data backward looking, but consistent with half point rate cut Wednesday. (BB)
