ON TOPIC: JDSU: up up and awaaaayyyy todayyyyy! Last chance at retail bargain basement. I was definitely wrong that 65 a few weeks ago was a great price, but it will be again.

RE: DOCTORS: When I was in pre-med, I wanted to be a proctologist. People told me I could switch into the advertising business, not have to study or do any real work, and could still work with all the assholes I wanted to. <chigaboom, chaboom>

RE: DOCTORS AND JDSU: When surgeons are working with their OPTOELECTONICALLY/NETWORKED/UNIVERSALLY LINKED heads up 24/7 information retrieval/storage/transmission displays, the world will be a better place: JDSU/SDLI will be worth much more too.

OT/Very last post, <vbg> on this subject Larry!

Unfortunately for Sherman, he hasn't the remotest
idea of the caliber of physician my son is being
raised to be......

After telling him that he could be a fantastic ...
....anything else he wanted to be , but a phyisician...
because of..all the current problems...difficult life...etc
it is clear the kid has a calling to be an MD.

So I told him if you are going to be one, you might as well be
better than Sherman and among the best.
I told him, in the future, MDs will be
" engineers of the body ".

To that effect he will get a double undergrad
degree in 5 years: BSChem.Eng plus Master of Science inBioMedEng.
With his current High School 15 ( fifteen ) AP subjects and
doing College Calc in High School
(the public High School pays for him to go to college for Calculus ) that will be a cinch.

Then Med school and his final surgical specialty.
I told him " you might as well aim to run the Medical School,
your future may be more firmly in your hands and less
in the hands of others. Also, more fun...Hopefully you can
also educate a better caliber of future physicians.
Those that are not just myopic to closest buck
but are also concerned about how to best use
the limited wealth available to us in this world.
( So far he has an A+ in AP Economics, vbg )"

He is deeply religious and I told him that
" despite your great skills, people will continue
to die: you need to be able to give them hope in the beyond
even after there is nothing you can do further for them..."

Finally after I told him though that....after all of the above.....

" son... this Nation cannot afford you....".

His mind though is made up, <vbg>.

------------------------------------------------

That's it.

At this point it is best not to bring these issues back again in this thread.

The HRC SI thread again is where we can talk about it.
I will look there from time to time to
carry on a discussion,

Subject 24976

If I don't see, prompt in a PM ( I read my mail slowly so be patient ),

like father, like son....or, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...but i quote, "i may not agree with what you say, but would defend with my life your right to say it" - but, then again, i am a first amendment absolutist..

A Long Term Threat??

Waveguides are an old technology with heretofore limited applications. But here's a report indicating a company using waveguides may be able to take aim at FO communications applications. However, since they are working of commercializing a product that competes with single-mode optical fiber, I would hazard a guess that DWDM-type applications would be some time down the road. However, could we all be focusing on dramatic growth for FO, only to be thrown off course by a technology few are even aware of?
