I suspect that with a new Administration Cisco can do whatever it takes to deal with Juniper. I believe they had the ability all along but realistically feared the "Microsoft treatment" by the previous politically-motivated regime.

...Cisco also introduced its ONS 15327 optical networking gear for metropolitan networks, which competes with a similar product announced by Redback Networks Inc. (NasdaqNM:RBAK - news) on Tuesday. The ONS product is a smaller version of its ONS 15454, which Lang said costs about $100,000 and of which Cisco has sold more than 20,000 units to telecommunications operators.

Lang declined to confirm a report in Web-based trade publication, Light Reading, that Cisco already had $400 million in pre-orders for its products, which begin shipping on Wednesday.

He also said that while rivals like Juniper have been able to chip away at Cisco's lead due to service providers seeking to diversify its pool of suppliers, the impact would ultimately be limited.
