Dear nadine: I dont know if the cause is Medicare or just the way things are done in medicine. I do know that the CARE PROVIDERS particularly the nurses are getting the SHAFT. Salaries have never been great, now patient loads are increased, overtime is horrendous and burn out common among nurses. Meanwhile the overhead is outrageous. I audited many hospitals in my career and only ever found ONE that was IMHO well managed and operated effeciently. Also, medicine has made great strides in technology but those machines and super drugs are incredibly expensive and often have to be amortized over a small population resulting in huge individual costs.
