Mephisto--yeah, Ashcroft IS dangerous in a political way--the Democratic senators who say they will "take him at his word" that he will enforce the law are very naive, in my view... The vote is coming tomorrow, as you know, and Daschle is doing the classic reduced expectation game that politicians always do--he said in the NYTimes that he hoped the opposition will get over 30 votes, while he knows virtually for certain that they'll get 42, give or take a vote... Oh well, that's politics...
