First, there is no objective accounting to compare to, and therefore there can be no lie reckoned, you are merely inferring that as the cause of the downplay. Second, even if, in the swirl of rumor, there were some exaggeration, that would not amount to lying, anymore than in that old game where one creates a circle and whispers something in the ear of the next person, and so on down the line, until, at the end, one discovers major distortions........
