First not all Democrats are liberal...just as not all Republicans are conservative.

But you said "a good mix of Democrats." If you get a good mix then you would need a fairly large number and you would preumably need to have some of the more liberal democrats. It strikes me as slightly crazy to think that any even slightly conservative Republican president would even think of appointing such a cabinet. (or that any liberal Democrat would think of apointing "a good mix of Republicans". If Gore had gotten a few hundred more votes in FLA would you argue that he appoint someone like Ashcroft, or perhaps Newt Gingrich?
