limtex,

You have an insatiable need for being negative. :)

We're in a recession

Really? We've had two consecutive quarters of negative growth? Nah. Not even one.

Nearly a year on and the slide continues and no end in sight despite rate cuts.

The Naz is 23% higher than it's 52-week low which occured in January.

They stopped the market in its tracks on the way up but now have little if any effect.

If that's the case, why did it take about 18 months (if I remember corerectly) of increasing rates before the market tanked. I don't suppose irrationally high valuations did as much to cause the market to tank as the rate cuts.

Remember that rate cuts are a two-edged sword. The good side of the blade is that rate cuts make companies' cost of funds less expensive, making it easier for companies to expand. The bad side of the blade is that if rate cuts are in order, it's because the economy is slowing.

Limtex, may I suggest u cash out of the equities market, and stash the cash in your mattress ? u'll be able to sleep easy.

cheers, kumar
PS: "the market" is probably better represented by the S&P500 rather than just the Naz.
