Haven't been by SI in a while -- and yes! some discussion about TA going on.

But then -- what's this anal driven talk about not discussing this type or that type of TA on this thread. That's like trying to pick the brown stuff out of chicken sh?t. It's hard to do, and makes your fingers smell. Change the name of the thread to "Technical Analysis - Beginners to Advanced - All Forms Welcome".

Code pounders can learn from chart readers. Chart readers can learn from code pounders. It's the exposure to one or the other that just might perk up someone to do a little homework. As an example, I play music on the weekends (an old fart R&R/R&B/Honkey Jazz group) and from the beginning of my music career, it seems that everytime I thought a particular type of music stunk, (or didn't belong here) along comes something in the "Stunk" music that I like, which I incorporated here and there. Next thing you know I've learned something new, expanded my horizons, and I'm a better musician. No difference with TA.

If it's TA related -- please post it right here. If I (or you) don't like it, click "next".

Take care,

Eric

on shooting stars,

you make a good point micheal, that all candlesticks need to be confirmed by the following day.

On closer inspection, not so many were actually shooting stars, since they had not gapped up to open, and many had shadows as well. KLAC and some other semi equips like ASYT seem to have made an Advance Block, which is a bearish reversal.

Now the market has to wait another 2 months before it can get it's next rate cut fix. During that time we will endure a lot of bad news. It could get ugly out there.

Just an observation...
I see comments like this often..
"Note I am not saying that candles do not work, just pointing out an observation and an adaptation that some of us have made."

The 'work' word..Darts find winners but you know it is totally random so would one say they 'work'? The dart has no knowledge or intelligence..
You use all these tools to determine,in your timeframe, if supply or demand is in control. No one anything(ma's,candles, etc) has all the answers..The best systems are only(IMO)55-65% accurate at best, so what you do when you are wrong is so important.. You make it WORK and only you..

Michael

"I suppose those times have not returned as yet, but one lesson learned was that some candles became less useful over time"

That is what is wrong with the BOOKS. They do not teach one how to trade them. More to a shooting star etc than just a shooting star. It is important to IMAGINE what a comfimation looks like and IMAGINE what scenarios can play out that will tell you very quickly which side you are on. Anway, they have worked fine for me for a long time but I threw away the books a LONG TIME AGO after learning the basics. That is all the books are for.

BTW, if one waits for confirmation the icing is gone. FWIW
