Compared to then, we now are armed and manned to the teeth. That's why I think anything beyond where we are is overkill. The size of our military has decreased greatly but still I am not advocating an increase. However even to stay where we are there might need to be a small increase. I would also favor a small increase for moderinization and readiness, not really new programs just to avoid having to cancel most of what is currently in the pipeline. I'm not saying that it is imposible to protect our interests with out any increase, just that it might cost the lives of American soldiers who's death might be avoided by a small carefully targeted increases for readiness and modernization.
