Yet it sold chips, infrastructure equipment, and phones that helped the expansive build-out of the terrestrial wireless networks which helped negate the need for MSS voice services!! Apples and oranges, pcstel - and I suspect you know that. Last I checked, BLS ran G* and LOR - IJ just runs Q*. I doubt IJ will get into BLS's position, and I don't think it matters that much. Just so BLS assumes the position along with VOD, and exits stage whatever. Q* can afford to make a go of it alone if pushed, I suppose. I doubt it comes to that. VOD and LOR will remain as "partners" and the system will continue to operate with VOD keeping the gateways going and LOR pushing the sat buttons. Back here in the real world, however, we'll see new management that sees things in a Q* light and markets the product to its strengths - which will multiply quickly as Q* rolls out additional capability. I think this may happen pre-BK, but not so sure any more. G* has been strangled nearly blue by members of its own family. Custody will be taken away form the perpetrators of this disaster, new management will chart a new course - and all will be splendid, some day. If VOD wants to keep a toe in it, it probably gets to take another run at voice. I don't much care about that short term - voice won't be much revenue for quite awhile. Still, I suspect VOD's exclusivity of end to end voice is terminated, with other wireless vendors able to market the product. No way Ford is going to partner with VOD on Wingcast, and no way Sprint will JV the deal with VOD, so VOD's exclusive even on voice is probably history. LOR can continue to operate the constellation - they appear to need the money. A new partner with data specific needs and huge data applications, such as Rupert Murdoch, may come on board as equity partner. Still, the new G* will revolve around the one company that can and will save it - 'da Q*. A final observation along those lines. Just how happy can IJ be about the way this G* project has been handled. The CEO talks so much BS that no one believes him anymore. The marketing gurus at VOD have so neglected their part of the deal the CEO (the ever resourceful BLS) felt compelled to set up a separate sales branch and target Iridium's old markets - that's monumental neglect on the one hand and a hackneyed fix on the other - tweedle dee and tweedle dum. Meanwhile, Q* takes a financial hit, a stock market hit, and a credibility hit - as IJ finds this stunningly successful piece of technology suddenly being mentioned in the same breath with Iridium, Inmarsat and BK. Fast forward - G* is in the process of re-structuring. LOR's got no money. VOD is desperately trying to figure out how to put together enough spectrum in US to roll 3G, they've over paid billions in Europe for 3G spectrum that they're now being told will be delayed 2 to 3 years and their bankers are chafing. Plus, as RS points out, G* is just no big deal to them. Sounds to me that if the restructuring is likened to a gun fight, VOD and LOR arrive with dull knives, not to mention a lot of facial egg. They'll buckle quickly, and stay involved on Q*'s terms since they realize the potential just as we do. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Pierre
