Thanks for the good notes.

# optical components 65% growth, limited by capacity, big b/b

Good to get more confirmation of strength in optical components.

"770 photonic router in very successful beta tests in four carrier in US and six in Europe and Asia
will contribute to sales in second half of 2001 and will be sold with new optical cross-connection."

Does anybody know where I can get more information about this product? The term "photonic router" implies photons are being routed...which if true would be a monumental breakthrough and would be making much more news than this. I'm assuming it is some sort of o-e-o switch but can't find anything on Acatel's site other than this product which does not appear to be the 770:

alcatel.com

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: Or are you referring to the 7770 routers as featured in this Lightreading article? (but which don't sound "photonic" at all to me)

>>Alcatel SA (NYSE: ALA: Paris: CGEP:PA) is turning partners into competitors as it introduces two new routers today: the 7770 Routing Core Platform and 7420 Edge Services router (see Alcatel Boxes Clever ).

In spite of being a Juniper Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR - message board) reseller, Alcatel is aiming its terabit router at Juniper’s core product, the M160, and it’s pitting the new 7240 against Juniper’s M5 and M10 edge routers.<<
