Toscano,

the fith options exchange is ISE, the others are CBOE, AMEX, PHLX, and PSE. Unlike the others which still operate trading pits ISE is fully electronic. LIFFE does not trade any US equity options. They have recently introduced single stock futures on a number of US stocks, though.

As for the trading, I believe that the most important thing is to find a style that suits your personality and that you're comfortable with. But no matter what approach you take in the long run it's proper risk and money management that decides about success. I also take naked option positions but usually only as part of strategies like ratio writes and backspreads.

he went as far as saying that in some instances there are arbitrage opportunities. I never viewed it that way, and i assume that it could be possible.

yes every once in a while you can come across a juicy crossed market especially in fast markets. It's still not totally riskless because some option MMs have a habit of backing away in such situations but if you make sure that for the involved exchanges autoex is still on and you remain within the autoex size limits it can be very profitable. Last summer when the results of the Florida tobacco trial against MO were released the front month ATM options were crossed 1 3/16 x 5/8 for almost a full minute.
