I'm wondering if there are any other surgical procedures, or prescriptions (thinking of RU486), needed by the poor and now funded by the government, that you would advocate be available to the poor only if and when the private sector is able and willing to fund them....?

I think your answer will be yes, as it's apparently not abortion itself, but pretty much all government programs (I'd guess you are for privatizing prisons and the post office, too), that you object to. What about, to be specific, govt funding of birth control clinics for the poor, or mammograms, or eye exams....?

As an example, I am against the U.S. government funding AIDS research. BUT, I consider AIDS to be a great threat to
health of the population. Since I place a great deal of importance on this issue and I also think that the gov shouldn't have
involvement, it follows that I had damn well better be ready to donate to the cause. And I have and I do, both with funds
and my time.

Are the only grounds on which you object to the govt funding AIDS research the general ones having to do with the principle Less-govt-is-best, or does AIDS have a special place for some reason? For example, do you feel the same about funding research on cancer or sickel cell anemia or Parkinsons or... you know. Other diseases.

I raise the AIDS research question because it strikes me that AIDS and the need for abortion have in common that they are (often) transmitted by voluntary sexual activity, so to speak.

But they're different, too; and I don't think AIDS research is particularly controversal. (I could be wrong.)

I'm way behind on the thread. If this subject is over, sorry folks, and Jorj, just ignore me....
