Via Technologies Inc. led gains after its January sales almost doubled. ++++++++ 4NP issue nearing resolution. President Chen Shui-bian reportedly met with the cabinet and reached a consensus on going ahead with construction of the Fourth Nuclear Power plant. His solution is aimed at meeting the will of the people, keeping the current Cabinet in office, and satisfying the opposition-dominated Legislature. Three older nuclear power plants will likely be closed when the 4NP comes on line in the interest of safety. Other sources of non-nuclear energy will be developed. We interpret this issue as largely discounted in Taiwan share prices, but may have a short-term positive impact on the market and political stability.
