Dylan Australian Show May Be Nixed

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - Bob Dylan's plans to play at the
Australian mecca of folk music may be blowing in the wind.
Dylan is set to give a concert on March 31 at a new site at
Byron Bay, north of Sydney, where folk singers often perform. But
promoters say the plan is under threat after protests from local
residents.
Some people fear that Dylan would attract thousands of fans and
it would clear the way for more big concerts, creating litter and
traffic problems.
``Residents are a little bit concerned that if it's approved for
this region, who's to stop them having another lot of events in
this area as well,'' music promoter Grant Hilton told Australian
Broadcasting Corp. radio on Tuesday.
Hilton said he doubted the Dylan show would go ahead.
Dylan's tour promoter, Michael Chugg, confirmed the singer
wanted to do the concert, but not if people opposed it, The
Australian newspaper reported Tuesday.
``If there's going to be any kind of controversy over the Byron
Bay show, Bob doesn't want to know about it,'' Chugg was quoted as
saying.
