John,

If one assumes (as most of the shorts have here) that options are part of compensation then one could say that the pain for the employee's is greater than for shareholders who's salary's are not impacted. Again, I think you're focusing on the select few which in the grand scheme probably hold fewer shares than the mass of middle management employee's.
