I am shocked that a man of your obvious breeding would resort to Websters. Are they not an American publication? I believe Mr Webster was a 19th century yankee dude. No sir, it's Oxford for me.

I will make concessions now and then so as not to confuse my esteemed colleagues from down south. The most common compromise I make is to use the Zed instead of the Ess in words like recognise.

As for the Texans and similar ilk from the deeper south, well, I admire their tenacity in not giving up their moderately old dialects. I think "ancient" is an exaggeration though. If they want ancient I will drag their asses over to Ireland, or any of the charming islands off Scotland. -g
