Yea but that was more than offset by the capital the Federal government sopped up with increased taxes. In the end it matters little how government spending is financed ( taxes or borrowing ), IT'S THE SPENDING STUPID. Or if your prefer, IT'S THE STUPID SPENDING!

Clinton got the government out of competition with the private sector for borrowing power.

I thought that was the initiative of the Contract With America that Clinton was effectively forced to sign (and later claimed as his own work.)

I think it is fitting that Bush Jr should receive the economy in bad shape where his Dad left it. When Clinton/Gore were in we had a boom cause more people had more money to spend on goods and services. MANY people I know are scared of the Bush plans and have cut their spending already. MANY uncertainties are on the horizon. One of the uncertainties is where the surplus is going to come from?????? I have a feeling there won't be one!!!! The energy ( oil ) people will get their hands on it before it can be spent.

Bush has created two new bureaucratic dept.'s already. I guess the Republicans are only against programs when they don't fleece the pockets of their campaign contributors. On top of that he's going to have a big tax cut, increase the military spending and give seniors a prescription drug plan and shore up the Social Security??? All this and the economy is going down the tubes?

If you believe in Reaganomics then give your wife all your credit cards and let her shop till she drops. Then go out and mortgage your house to the hilt and use the money to take a trip around the world.....don't worry about paying anything back and don't worry if you lose your job or business! Just go into debt and hope that all your spending will help the economy go into recovery so you will have the money to pay back all your debts.

It's the plan of an absolute blubbering idiot!!!!
