Scumbria,

Most houses in California have no insulation or weatherstripping. Not too surprising that they use a lot of energy. Not too hard to fix, either.

There is no incentive to fix it, since the state is paying 1/2 or more of the electric bills in the entire state of California, thus subsidizing high consumption.

Scumbria, <Most houses in California have no insulation or weatherstripping. Not too surprising that they use a lot of energy.>

Reminds me of Ithaca, back when I was attending Cornell. I lived in a house which had so many holes where house heat could easily leak out. Covering the windows with plastic insulation helped a little, but the heating bills were still astronomical (even for someone with a decent income, much less a bunch of poor college students). And of course, the landlord was not motivated at all to improve the insulation in that place.

At least Californian winters are rather mild, unlike upstate NY. Wait until the summer! Aren't Californians very fond of their air conditioners?

What is the cost of electricity in California where you lived?? (cents/kWh)
