More to the point is Antigone's statement to Creon:

To say that if Lincoln hadn't fought the civil war we would still have slavery in this country today is absurd.

Even you aren't foolish enough to believe that.

You're like the little boy who only says things to annoy because he knows it teases.

But it does get tiring after awhile.

BTW, the quote you cite is more often credited to Mark Twain. Do you have a cite that would show that it originated with Lincoln?
