I guess for some of the details, you'd actually have to drink a beer with some of your AMAT friends. You DO have AMAT friends, yes? If not, I could refer, for the appropriate fee....

Now that you mention it, AMAT's head of HR is a friend of mine, but I've never considered it appropriate to pump her for information. Besides, I find out everything I need to know on this thread!

Actually, my wife used to work for AMAT and we know a number of employees. The difficulty is that they're almost all female and my wife doesn't buy that "Hey honey, we were just having a beer and discussing the market" story anymore. <g>

Mitch, The Mercury News article confirms that you drink beer with the right people. I wonder what some single malt scotch might reveal? <g>

Fridays off without pay, reducing temporary manufacturing workers, freezing regular hiring, cutting salaries... Uh Oh

This news is coming on the heals of an earnings warning and prior to their earnings announcement. IMO they're preparing us for a sad forward outlook. Maybe it won't be terrible, but it sounds similar to what Chambers at Cisco did (in a slightly different way) when he cautioned investors just before their report.
