Name: Joy Covey
Title: Chief Strategy Officer
Company: Amazon.com
Sector: Information Technology
Age: n/a
Education: BS California State University at Fresno; MBA, JD Harvard University
Salary: n/a
Claim to fame: The intense and whip-smart Covey took Amazon.com public earlier than anyone had expected. At the end of 1998, she oversaw a $326m junk bond issue—the first by an internet company— on terms that let Amazon go five years without having to make any payments.
Quotable quote: 'It may not seem logical, but trust me. I know where I'm going. And it's far.'
Etc: Covey is a sports fanatic who goes rockclimbing and wakeboarding. For her wedding in the Wasatch Mountains, two dozen guests rode snowmobiles up to a clearing where Covey, clad in black jeans, sweater and veil, took the vows.
