How in the world did you get that statistic? Considering the millions upon millions that have died or been tortured due to political ideology (Communism, Nazism, and Fascism most prominently coming to mind), it is difficult to believe that religion holds a candle in that department. Besides, it is almost impossible to separate out religious motivation from other motives under cover of religion. Even during the Spanish Inquisition, the religious motivation was only one strand. The main motive was driving out foreign influences in the process of establishing the hegemony of the Castilian monarchy over the peninsula......
