Prohibition is a more current example of a controversial issue. Regarding prohibition, I'm pretty sure I would not have considered temperance as in appropriate business for the Federal government to be in Prohibition is not a bad example but I think it falls a bit short of the abortion controversy (which in turn is less of an angry controversy then slavery was). I agree with you about temperance not being an appropriate business for the Federal government to force on people. Tim
