Welcome to Silicon Investor?s Stock-Picking Challenge:

The contest is open to all Silicon Investor Premium Members, and runs from
2/1/01 through 2/28/01.

PRIZES:
First Place: $500 and limited edition plaque
Second Place: $250 and limited edition plaque
Third Place: $150 and a limited edition plaque
Fourth-Tenth Place: Silicon Investor T-Shirt
Last Place: $100 and limited edition trophy

Here's what you need to do:
(1) Pick 5 U.S. stocks (Nasdaq, AMEX, NYSE, OTC:BB only), and post a
message to this thread with your picks on or before Jan 31, 2001, 11:59 p.m.
EST. Note: Each stock will be a long position only. That means you can't short
any stocks!

(2) After market close on Feb. 1, create a public portfolio at
siliconinvestor.com with the five stocks you
picked.

The name of the portfolio should be the same as your Silicon Investor alias
(posting name).

For the "purchase price," make sure to enter the opening price of the stock on
Feb. 1. For the "number of shares," enter 100 for each stock.

After you create the portfolio, click on the link to "share it with others". This will
make it a public portfolio.
(3) Respond to your original post with the URL (address) of your public portfolio.

Only entries and portfolios that are posted correctly will be counted. Any
incorrect postings will result in disqualifications. Public portfolios that are
changed after they are posted will be disqualified.

We will publish the top five performers on a daily basis. After market close on
Feb. 28 the contest is over, and we will post the winners on this thread. If you're
interested in being notified whenever there is an official announcement on this
thread, bookmark the following name: "SI_CONTEST". You can check back to
read messages at any time by going to your "PeopleMarks".

One last thing. . . if you can think of a good name for the ongoing contest,
please post it here. We'll send you a T-shirt if we use it.

OG- It wasn't just in the headers.
Make sure
you enter 100 shares per stock and that you use the market open price. You can do this by going to
siliconinvestor.com.

As for your other questions- a lot of people did "bend" the cost basis of their stocks. SI is already going through and checking the portfolios. They will probably also go back and back check any winners as well from what I understand.

you cant just click on the damn links......................
Nobody gets ignored............but do your part and READ.

This message was the same message that was PM'd to me. There is nothing in this message that states we need to post our URL to our original post here nor is there anything in this post that suggest we enter in our own costs basis.

THIS IS FROM THE POST YOU REPLIED TOOOOOOO....................................!

FAQ

Q: Which stocks are eligible?
A: The stock must be listed on the NASDAQ, AMEX, NYSE or OTC:BB. Mutual funds (both closed ended, open ended, and exchange traded funds such as DIAMONDS and SPDRs) are not eligible.

Q: Do I have to choose 5 Stocks?
A: Yes. You must select 5 stocks of 100 shares each.

Q: How will the winners be determined?
A: The winners will be determined on or about March 2, 2001, by tabulating the top ten winners and the last place winner based on overall percentage returns.

Q: What if there is a tie?
A: We will award duplicate prizes.

Q: Do I need to set up a public portfolio?
A: Yes. After the close of the market on February 1, please create a public portfolio for your 5 stock picks. Make sure you enter 100 shares per stock and that you use the market open price. You can do this by going to siliconinvestor.com. Make sure to name the portfolio after your alias. Once you have created your portfolio, click the “share with others” link to make it a public portfolio. Please post the URL of your portfolio to the Stock-Picking Challenge thread.

If you have any additional questions, please post them to Scott Lux on the Stock-Picking
Challenge Thread.

Good luck!
