Cisco can't sell calls.

That would violate SEC rules.

Options do dilute stock depending how they are structured.

Can we move on?

Setting accounting standards by a metric like "realistic" is both unlikely and unwise. The point of the example was to demonstrate that their are infinite variations of opportunity cost, and that is why opportunity cost is not considered a valid accounting criteria for expenses.

Anyway, discussing the issue has grown old. We don't get to set the standards, so what we think really doesn't matter. The important thing is to understand the current standards and invest accordingly.

If you believe that options constitute an expense, and that changes the way you value Cisco's future cash flows, more power to you.
