Oh, yes, this is my husbands favorite cake. His mother gave me the recipe before we were married so's I could give it a try. She called it Cherry Dump Cake.

It's the exact same recipe!

Thanks for posting a old and reliable favorite. :-)

This is his second favorite, many of you probably have this already:

Devil's Food Cake

1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. sifter cocoa
3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda

Add:
2/3 c. butter or margarine
2/3 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla

Beat for 2 minutes on low speed

Add:

1/3 c. buttermilk
2 eggs

Beat on medium speed for 3 minutes

Bake in a greased and floured pan at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done with toothpick.

You can bake this cake in a 13X9 pan or you can make in two round cake pans.

Icing:
1 stick butter or margarine
1 tsp vanilla
6 to 8 tbs. milk
3/4 bag of confectioners sugar

PB

Okay, great!!! Sounds yummy, but I do have one question... does the cherry pie filling go in first which means it's on the bottom, or is it sitting on the top as listed in the post? Sounds like a dumb question, I know, but I'm left handed in a right handed world, it's very easy for me to get things backwards (or even upside down).....<g> TIA
