Taking an average of the 5 percentage gains would not be fair. That's not how a brokerage house calculates your portfolio gain, why should this contest. Imagine someone picking one stock that goes from $1 to $2. The other four are $20 stocks and stay flat for a month. You think someone whose portfolio goes from $8000 to $8001 in a month should win. I don't.

I do need to look into this further - obviously "overall" is a vague term. Regardless, percentage WILL determine the winner. I need to look at if it is the percentage that the portfolio calculates or if it is a cumulative return. Thanks for your patience while I work through this.
