Scumbria, What you is describing is stupidity, not extortion. Rambus could charge 50% royalties but like you say, what is a 50% royalty on $0 sales. Rambus charges what it does so that it takes its piece of the vast profit pie. Oh, BTW, the only guys making money in memory right now are those that serve the RDRAM market. Hmm, if I were upper management and I was not on the RDRAM train, you can bet I'd be on the horn to Tate right now asking for ways to hedge my business against downfalls like the one the non-specialized DRAM business is in now.
