"You can call me anything you want, just don't call me late for dinner," is a fairly common joke throughout the Deep South, and I assume it's common elsewhere. Not exactly original, but hardly worth noting or objecting to, IMO. In Ashcroft's case, he's been Governor, Senator and now Attorney General - the protocol question of what to call him is beyond my own rudimentary capabilities - I think typically you address someone by the highest title they've held, as a courtesy. So which is it?
