Then you must be prochoice? Because with abortion- permission for life rests, from the moment of conception, in the hands of another, who can use force to revoke this permission. Prochoice works for me- since I think we are all subject to the rights we contract for by being in a society- and abortion is one of those rights, in this society.

I am speaking of an intrinsic right, based on the nature and the requirements of human existence. Sorry about the confusion on the terminology. I'm afraid I'm not quite getting your notion of rights. I subscribe to the social contract school of rights. Using your example, if you and I gang up on X, she can assert her "right" to be left alone until we club her to death and take what she has. We can do that not because we have the right to but because we have the might to. (Although X has said that she's tall and athletic so maybe she could take the two of us.) She only has her right to be left alone if you and I accede to it. However, if there were to be any extrinsic or intrinsic rights, my first choice would be your right to be left alone. Karen
