I had no idea how great the inequities were. And how cruel it is to say money won't make the difference. RIch districts have fought all the way to the supreme court so they will not have to share their largesse with the poor- if the money were not important they would not fight so hard. If the money were not important, politicians would send their kids to DC schools that spent about 3000 per student per year (in 1989) instead of to private schools that spent around 11,000 or schools in affluent suburbs that spent well over double that (3000) amount. Especially when you consider that equity might require more to be spent on the disadvantaged, and not less.
