nick the npf/nis update just released not too long ago is supposed to trigger all new rule creation alerts. it's not doing that for me. which makes me glad that i also run two other firewalls along with npf. <g3> kinda' like having two or three vehicles... when one needs to go in the shop, the others pitch in to help. the symantec tech on their support site at first responded with incorrect info. when i cited various symantec sources saying he was wrong, he then took a few days and posted back that i should uninstall/reinstall. but out of the blue i got email from an R&D guy who is offering good solution attempts. are you running npf or nis? :) mark
