Scumbria,

One fact about petroleum that is generally overlooked, is that it is the base product of plastics, medicines, paints, fertilizers and many chemicals.

The first thing to IMO would be to eliminate the use of petroleum for generation of electricity. It can be readily replaced with nuclear or coal. The second thing would be to eliminate natural gas from electricity generation, since it it can replace heating oil for heating. This way, petroleum would be left for fueling cars and for industrial uses, for which there is no easy replacement.

But something like this would probably be killed by the environmentalist.

Too bad Bushwacker is president. We need some real leadership now to reduce consumptive waste.

LOL. You are right. We do need some real leadership to catch up after no leadership for 8 years.

Joe

Yes, I actually thought that those uses of oil might have been behind some of Tenchusatsu's concern over the release of the Strategic Oil Reserve this past fall.

You know how Tench gets into computer games....I thought maybe he felt that it was inappropriate for Clinton/Gore to release the oil to bail out easterners/midwesterners, and instead it should have been used it to build more PCs. ;~))
