Apology accepted, of course. Bland’s reasons for bringing up the relative paucity of abortions in his own immediate circle were twofold: 1. To explicitly acknowledge that he is in fact not well-read or well-informed on the subject, because as fate would have it, it has simply never been necessary for him for any practical reason to acquire first-hand knowledge or expertise. 2. Bland is aware that the subject is much more emotionally charged for many other people than it is for him, even in cases where their actual knowledge or experience may be no greater than his own. Bland is speaking dispassionately to an “audience” that may not be hearing him dispassionately. He is often guilty of this in real life. So he was attempting to get across the fact that his emotional temperature on the subject is much lower than it may appear to someone reading his posts who is more personally committed to their own opinion. In short…bland is speaking from a position of ignorance, inexperience, and insensitivity. But he truly has no agenda to fulfill or foist off on anyone else. He is simply asking what he regards to be “the difficult questions” in an attempt to better understand how others may see them. He will even admittedly on occasion take up a position he does not fully agree with (or realizes is incomplete) in order to challenge a response. X the Well Known responded perfectly to just such a post this morning, offering bland some good information and a link he was previously unaware of. Hopefully that makes bland’s stance and methodology a little clearer.
