Agreed Rande, have to be nimble, and if not short-selling then at least selling and taking smaller profits than one might have hoped for. Pigs will get slaughtered on each side. This is also however a many tiered market and various types of stocks act differently. So that plays into strategy too. Will defensive stocks out-perform battered growth stocks this year? I think not. But there will certainly be times to get defensive. This year could be a series of dips and rallies, over and over again. I believe this market can and will go higher with the Fed's help but it's not going to be an easy ride. Ironically buying into the fear and selling into the greed remains the best way to make money. But of course that is contrary to human behavior. We have a strong instinct to run with the herd and not be contrarian. I wouldn't be bullish not except we just had a steep tech sell-off which makes for many buying opportunities. Is this the bottom? Maybe not but maybe close. The fight and the bets we make will be all about those short-term bottoms and tops. Miscalculate by a day or two and you can lose money fast. Try to buy them while they're under attack and sell them when they're flying. Or just pick your longterm buys and forget about them. Which of course we don't do on this thread.
