. I think I've heard that some exchanges have agreed to match the best price as part of their order flow programs but obviously this does not seem to be universal practice.

yes. Schwab, in repeated instances, have actually called the floor and request that they "match" the best price. while several time this call "forces" the execution, on a fast market... forget it this is as good as no help whatsoever.

i have an on going request to Schwab to provide the software that Cybercorp has (owned by Schwab), to the active trades with Schwab... they say it is coming.

Schwab claims that they route the order where the most active market is in the specific option. i also know that the CBOE pays schwab for the order flow (this as per comments from people who have worked at the CBOE)

i agree with you the best solution is to go with the broker that allows you the ability to route the order to where the best price is.

in my case, i have other benefits with Schwab (nothing to do with actual trading), that has stop me from switching brokers. in addition, i have no access to DSL or ISDN or cable, this creates a problem with Cybercorp using their premium software. I am not sure whether this affects me with Interactive Brokers.

anyway... i have to do something as the commission cost has become a significant amount.
