I regularly use SI to obtain ideas and follow shares which are of importance to me. QLT is
just one of these shares.

Alan,

1 post since April of 96 qualifies as using SI regularly??? !!!

Notice of the class action hit the newswires about a week ago. More recent was QLT's response that the suit is without substance and will be vigourously defended.

These kinds of lawsuits were quite common for any company that:

1. Has money in the bank.
2. Has had its share price fall.
3. Had any insider selling, or did a secondary, prior to the drop in share price.

Unless there have been some other unlawful acts, probability of success is near zero, but it will make lawyers a little richer defending it.

The usual objective of those filing the class action is to coerce the company into settling for what typically amounts to the legal costs thus avoided.

While the number of absolutely frivolous suits has abated since the scumbags Milberg Weiss were successfully sued and had a multimillion $ judgment against them, there are still those that see this type of nonsense as easy money.

While I believe that the overwhelming advantage QLT has by having its lasers placed first and Visudyne established as the only effective treatment for ARMD, there's no sure thing. I see this somewhat like Crest. I still use that toothpaste even though the many other fluoride toothpastes are probably equally effective. Crest is, and always will be, the first one scientifically shown to be effective.

Ian.
