More on Predictions

I see a lot of disagreement on what the word "prediction" means. How did we get to this state? Did we take a wrong turn off the expressway?

All business endeavor is founded on predictions. The street flower seller who buys several dozen roses is predicting he can sell most of them by the end of his day, and make a profit. Nobody would trade a stock if she didn't predict an outcome based on some criteria, be it an earnings forecast, or a relative strength indicator blipping on her screen that is interpreted, an outcome predicted, and action taken.

You may not realize you're making a prediction when you do, if it comes almost as second nature to you. If you have a predetermined exit point, then you are predicting a result.

Otherwise, it's either an investment, or gambling.
