a. paisley,

While perusing the JENA link I came across message # 17, which is a release that contained the following paragraph. Do you or anyone else have a comment, one way or the other, about the approach to delivery that they are taking? Namely, the delivery of potentially vital information over the Internet:

"Via the Internet, JENA (Jet Engine Neural Analyzer) provides a totally integrated solution throughout the whole cycle of engine inspection. JENA can diagnose an engine based on an operator's in-flight data, a repair facility's on-wing ground test data or test cell data, and also supports in-shop rebuild configuration data for use by engine repair facilities. This application is the first to allow airlines and engine operators to manage all engines, regardless of manufacturer, on a single system. With its unique internet-based delivery system, JENA offers deductions in real-time, based on real experiences of the fleet as a whole."

Sometimes, IMO, companies can overdo the cachet of the term "Internet" in their promotional literature, if not in the very thinking that supports their stated strategies. Perhaps they haven't come around to fully appreciating some of the newer perceptions of this space, yet. Life-critical services, just as are enterprise mission-critical services, are still best served by dedicated, deterministic links with like backups in place. Short of that, Frame Relay or ATM. Next X.25, which Airinc and other international transportation consortia are still known to use. And then, the Open Internet (as a last resort backup). Comments welcome.
