Your point (that imposing is not an issue) would only be valid if you did not just have a consensus but actually had 100% agreement (which you will probably never have in any very large group). Consensus in the kind of groups where I facilitate means you work at it until you come up with something that everyone can live with. Consensus for a country doesn't mean that 270 million people agree. There will always be outliers--idiots, criminals, the insane, and the just plain ornery. I submit, though, that the more intense the issue, the greater the consensus needed. And abortion is a singularly intense issue. Karen
